With only three singles under their belt— two being from their upcoming debut EP, Separation— post-hardcore quartet Vagrants are setting themselves up for an epic leap into the writhing hardcore scene.

The second release off of the EP, aptly titled “Separation,” allows Vagrants to dive into a cathartic release of emotion stemming from hardships the band has faced throughout recording the album. Right on the heels of a tour while preparing to start recording their debut record, the band’s lead vocalist broke the news that he was going to jail. “Honestly, things were bleak and I really wasn’t certain what the future held for myself and the band at that point,” states founding member and guitarist Jose DelRio.

Fortunately they picked up vocalist and bassist Dylan Knapp to lend his unique tone to the band. Filling out the four-piece is founding member and drummer Anna Hayes, guitarist Jackson Taghon, and DelRio, who also contributes backing vocals as well. With “Separation” as the only track written after the lineup change, it carries an important message of powering through the roadblocks life throws at us.

Hailing from Pensacola, Florida, Vagrants has been pushing the boundaries of post-hardcore since 2017, when they released their breakthrough single “Window Panes.” Each of their three tracks all differ slightly when it comes to sonical nuances, yet the thread that holds them together and adds to their unique tonality is the gravelly sweetness in Knapp’s vocals. Not only does this complement the emotional purging that the band’s music embodies, it adds depth and cohesion to a genre that is not always known for its striking melodies.

With the prevailing theme of loss and grieving in all five tracks on Separation, any post-hardcore fan will find the freedom and solace to express their identity through this body of work. Lead single “Clarity” and title track “Separation” are currently available for streaming, with the Separation EP set to release on April 26th via Equal Vision Records.

Along with the release of their debut EP, Vagrants will be touring through April and May with The Word Alive, as well as Of Mice & Men, Secrets, and Parkway Drive.
