SPRINTS Unleash Post-Punk Video for Lead Single “Descartes”

Dublin’s electrifying force SPRINTS have announced their sophomore album All That Is Over, set for release on September 26 via Sub Pop (North America) and City Slang (worldwide). Following the critical acclaim of their 2024 debut Letter to Self, the band returns with a new record that cuts deeper and hits harder—an explosive, cathartic response to the chaos of both personal upheaval and a collapsing world.
To mark the announcement, SPRINTS have released the official video for “Descartes”, the album’s lead single and a defiant anthem of self-expression. Directed by Niamh Bryson, the video adds visual weight to a track that rewrites philosophy through a punk lens. Inspired by Rachel Cusk’s Outline and its critique of cultural vanity, frontwoman Karla Chubb reshapes Descartes’ famous axiom into her own: “I speak so therefore I understand.” “A lot of the negativity you see in the world is rooted in vanity and the ego that your beliefs or identity are more important than somebody else’s,” Chubb explains. “Descartes explores the idea that writing for me is not just a tool to make music but a tool to process the world.”
Written in transit and amidst turmoil—breakups, line-up changes, and political unrest—All That Is Over captures SPRINTS at their most dynamic and determined. While the album’s sonic territory expands into deeper textures and richer nuance, its heartbeat remains ferociously punk. “There was just so much happening and so much to process,” says Chubb. “I was writing every day because there was so much going on.” The new material reflects a band sharpened by constant touring and bound by raw chemistry, as guitarist Jack Callan adds: “By the time we ended up working on new stuff, we’d played so many shows together that the natural chemistry me, Karla and Sam had built up over years, Zac had very quickly developed too.”
The album’s title, taken from the searing track “Beg,” encapsulates the record’s themes of release and renewal. All That Is Over is both a reaction to personal disillusionment and a scream into the void of societal collapse, tackling everything from identity and grief to global atrocities. It’s a record that doesn’t offer easy answers, but insists on asking the hard questions—loudly.
SPRINTS will support All That Is Over with a massive run of EU and UK tour dates, including coveted slots at Glastonbury and performances with Bloc Party and Fontaines D.C. As their momentum continues to surge, SPRINTS are proving themselves not just as a standout act in Ireland’s music scene—but as one of the most vital voices in punk today.
