MUNNYCAT Drop Fiery New Single “Ditto”
If you’ve ever watched a major commercial, scrolled TikTok, or binge-watched your favorite show, chances are you’ve already heard MUNNYCAT—you just didn’t know it. The hyper-creative DIY duo of K808 and Khaledzou have had their infectious sound featured in over 500 placements, from Apple to Versace to Fenty Beauty, quietly becoming the soundtrack of pop culture. Now, the LA-based pair are stepping boldly into the spotlight with their debut album till death we do art, out August 8 via their own wild universe of maximalist pop and unfiltered visuals.
Leading the charge is their blistering new single “ditto”, a high-octane diss track aimed squarely at industry copycats. Along with the song, MUNNYCAT have dropped their darkest and most elaborate music video to date, reportedly created in just 10 days. “Instead of blowing our money on legal fees,” says K808, “we blew it on an over-the-top music video for our diss track. It just sounded like more fun than a lawsuit.” The track calls back to Khaledzou’s pre-MUNNYCAT band, The Zou, whose sound, they claim, was lifted by a Grammy-winning act years ago. Rather than fight it in court, they’re turning the frustration into art—and it slaps.
Khaledzou adds, “We’ve been eating, (not) sleeping, and breathing this video. It all happened so fast and we’re thrilled with how the story adds another dimension to the song. We couldn’t possibly be prouder of what we’ve made.” That chaotic creativity extends beyond “ditto.” From the piano-thumping, 808-laced “honest” to the revolution-fueled “follow the leader,” each song is paired with a cinematic video dripping in bold visuals and social commentary. “We love making videos as much as we love making music,” Khaledzou explains. “It’s another way for us to deepen the lore and create more context around the songs.”
till death we do art isn’t just an album—it’s a full-sensory experience. Mastered at Abbey Road Studios, the record will be released across cassette, CD, and even minidisc for the true collectors. But the crown jewel is its first-ever 3D vinyl edition, pressed on red/blue split wax that doubles as 3D glasses to bring the album’s artwork to life. “We are both obsessed with making things, and obsessed with each other,” says K808. “The album title isn’t a concept—it’s a vow. Till death we do art is a promise we made to each other and try to live every day.”
With a four-part docuseries on the way and a universe of sound, visuals, and chaos unfolding, MUNNYCAT is more than just a band—they’re a movement. Dive into their new single “ditto,” streaming now, and buckle up for one of 2024’s most original and outrageous album rollouts.
